My 2020 Fitness Goals Healthy Food And Lifestyle

What a year! 2020 has been anything but normal for most. With the onset of the pandemic in March, jobs being lost and the election madness, it will be a year to remember.  A lot of us were looking forward to that perfect vision, 20/20, which got blurrier and blurrier as the year went on.  But sometimes change happens for a reason.

Change is inevitable, and it may help us achieve goals that we did not think attainable.

This pandemic caused me a lot of anxiety early on and I decided to put it to good use by hiring a personal trainer to help me fulfill a long-time dream of getting fitter and stronger.

As the foodie that I am, the chats with my trainer about meals were many and often. Adjusting my way of eating to accomplish the desired goal was not easy, but with my trainer's knowledge,  I have been able to adapt, improve and learn what works for me. I can see that my goals are reachable.

I have learned about macros and the importance of eating the correct amount of protein to build muscle. I have also learned that eating fats are as important as eating carbohydrates, to have enough fuel to grow and strengthen my muscles.

Back in June, I started by eating five meals a day, which was extremely time consuming. Prepping helped, but my whole life revolved around food. Being as busy as I am with my Real Estate business, made it challenging. The good news is that there are many protein powders to choose from for shakes and protein bars, to substitute meals while on the field.

After a few months my trainer switched my way of eating to intermittent fasting, also known as IF. This way of eating allowed me to choose between having two or three meals a day, and I chose two. The meals are eaten within an eight-hour period, and the rest of the time I fast, other than water or herbal teas.

Water makes a huge difference. Drinking a gallon of water a day, as part of the program, has not been easy either. Sometimes I’m a little short of the gallon, but I try to drink as much as possible.  This helps with the elimination of toxins and hydration.

My first meal is usually eggs, egg whites and vegan protein of choice. I’m not vegan, but I do love a lot of the products in the market these days. If more protein is needed, I’ll make chocolate protein pancakes and add fresh berries with a drizzle of fat free syrups.

My second meal is a very big salad, lots of different mixed greens, kale, spinach or arugula. I add tomatoes, red onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, cucumber, and other healthy foods such as hearts of palm or garbanzo beans. As a dressing I drizzle balsamic vinegar and add salt and pepper. Sometimes, low fat cottage cheese or a fat free raspberry dressing that I purchased.

This is usually not enough food, so I’ll have dessert. My favorite is plain yogurt with blueberries or raspberries and walnuts or pecans.
